James Maclaren is a London and European based author, writer and commentator. He specialises in defence, security and intelligence matters. He has a defence background as an army officer, military academic and commercial writer.
Since 2010 he has specialised in freelance defence and security journalism, with a focus on NATO and east-west relations, emerging technology, the global strategic balance, sources of conflict and the response of western democracies. His writing is regularly published in specialist publications in the United States, Asia, Australia and the Middle East and he is a regular contributor and lecturer to a number of military staff colleges.
